Facing a State of Hate

Reader comment on item: [The Hamas Electoral Victory:] Democracy's Bitter Fruit

Submitted by Chris Bischof (United States), Jan 27, 2006 at 13:47

Mr. Pipes:

As much as I agree with your points, I think it is important to consider that Israel, the US, in fact, the world, must now deal with a terrorist state, rather than a terrorist organization operating within a rather poorly defined state.

I think we -- the US -- are better able to position ourselves against a terrorist state than against a terrorist organization operating in support of that state. I would think Israel would obtain a similar advantage.

It appears to me that should Hamas continue along its terrorist path, misery in the lives of Palestinians would reach new heights. Moreover, because the elections seemed orderly and fair, most of the world is left with no alternative but to accept the fact that whatever misery follows the elevation of Hamas to political power is entirely the fault of Palestinian Muslim voters who may well have chosen terror over peace and prosperity.
