The dumbing down of democracy

Reader comment on item: [The Hamas Electoral Victory:] Democracy's Bitter Fruit

Submitted by jane (United States), Jan 27, 2006 at 12:04

Not by nature a betting person, I plan to become very wealthy in the near future, on the backs of bets of how long it will take for the U.S. and its western allies to begin talks with Hamas.

Any takers out there?

More seriously and very sadly, what the westerners have done to the meaning of democracy is shameful. Then again, did it not begin when certain powers saw the lack of meaning the vote truly has. I seem to remember...

Poor Sharon; there's little doubt that the stresses of his recent decisions contributed to his ill health. To see a great strategist, such a fine and strong soldier, come to such a sorry end is a fitting example of how Jews, when we betray ourselves, wreak havoc to the point of no return.

And to listen to Dennis Ross, of course a guest last night on Charlie Rose (said Charlie gets all worked up and excited when he has Israel's worst to up his ratings), speak of giving away yet more land, a la West Bank and East Jerusalem, and how Olmert is willing to meet demands such as these, was as sickening, if not more, as when we had to listen to Ross' blather in the awful Oslo days.

I think I have a solution: Someone like a Daniel Pipes type to stand up and say to the world "..., get out of my face you bunch of racist wackos; we Jews do not live to win popularity contests with our enemies, a more empty goal impossible to find, reach, or have any real meaning: we simply do not care what you think, and we can fight you like any upright upstanding man or woman, for our humanity-given right to exist...:

There, now you've got me putting words in your erudite mouth, but I am so furious this morning, and every morning, for that matter. Why is the issue of racism against Jews, (the sin of racism or perceived racism has lost how many jobs for how many people), and yet it is ignored entirely by Jews.

Well, my chaverim, it is racism, pure and simple, ugly ignorant and deadly as always, and we should use it til we shame our enemies enough. If nothing else, we can point to selective racism and rub their noses in it.

And the worst of the bunch, and our greatest challenge, is self racism, known commonly as self hate, known even more commonly, and I use that word advisedly, to the Jewish intelligentsia, which from time immemorial has caused us more pain that can be measured with their downright silly leftist fantasies.

And now I have to go off to think seriously about becoming undemocratic, since it has little meaning anymore. Thank you, Bushmen, for taking what was best about America, and churning it to the point of meaninglessness.

Mr. Pipes, we need you more than ever to take the reins in Israel, along with Netanyahu, who, if he doesn't pop off with frustration, will be a true miracle, along with Caroline Glick, despite her glick schtick.

Furiously yours,
Jane
