The quicker people in the Middle East elect fascist regimes the better. These regimes, however democratically elected, will put themselves on a collision course (perhaps nuclear) with the west that in the end will result in total destruction visited upon them and their population. Then the German/Japan analogy will hold true.

The problem, and you have hit upon it, is the west no longer wages total war against its enemies. Until such a time happens the contradiction of terrorists taking power in the ME through democratic processes will continue.
