Remember, this IS a survey

Reader comment on item: [Pew Poll on] How Muslims Think

Submitted by No Dhimmi (United States), Jul 2, 2006 at 12:53

I would caution readers to remember that as a survey it speaks of a section of society; those who answered it, not all of society. The breath of how one practices Islam is as broad in it as in any other religion. I have met and know muslims who are muslims by birth only and have left the religion but still have a muslim name to those who are fervent and practice dawah. There are disturbing aspects about the religion that I believe feed those elements that wish to do the United States and the West in general harm, even to overthrow it and create an Islamic State.

However, I believe we should concentrate our efforts at exposing those aspects of the religion that need exposure i.e. enlightening the public as to the fact that Islam is a political system and the restoration of the Caliphate is a goal of Al-Qaeda and supposed non-violent groups like Hizb ut-Tahrir. Or, dhimmitude in Sharia that relegates Christians and Jews to a second-class citizenship in the Islamic State, a form of religious apartheid. This survey was not conducted in the United States. But I suspect many of the readers are from here. I've read some of the comments and the responses are generally negative and angry. Please consider that when we begin to demonize or generalize an entire group of people we open ourselves to treating them as less than equal to ourselves and our myopic approach to them; I'm afraid, will result in betraying the guarantees expressed in our Bill of Rights and Constitution. That is a sin that such a noble and honorable people like the citizens of the United States should not commit.
