Reader comment on item: [Pew Poll on] How Muslims Think
in response to reader comment: The media distorts Islam

Submitted by Daisy (United States), Jun 29, 2006 at 17:18

Dear Ms. Thompson, Your statement "Overall, the media has created a wall between the Muslim community and the Western community." is incorrect. The media has not constructed a wall; however, destructive actions of Muslims in the name of Islam has certainly made (sensible) people properly guarded against Islam.

And when every response from the "Muslim community" after yet another atrocity done in the name of Islam is along the lines of "Muslims didn't do it." Or "This is not Islam" Or, "If Muslims are truly part of the terrorist attack in Canada..." spoken in distancing tones to the "Western Community" then expect to be "misunderstood'. When this sort of denial is routinely employed then you can expect cognitive dissonance to occur amongst the "Western Community". You simply will not be believable.

The antidote? Become a PART of the "Western Community" if you live in the West (and there's a good argument to be made for membership even if you don't live in the West) Instead of huddling off to the sidelines, nourishing your grievances .. become proactive .. form a Big Parade (we KNOW Muslims can form Very Large Gatherings on a moment's notice .. we see it done every night via the Big Bad Media) in SOLIDARITY with the "Westerner Community". Amalgamate. Don't expect the people who have been hurt by Islam to begin this action; that would be unreasonable. Talk to your fellow Muslims and act reasonably and responsibly:

Follow Western models of reasonable, responsible action. Do not follow Middle Eastern/African etc. models .. this will not work here. You must adapt to the West .. the West is under no obligation to adapt to you. You might be surprised to learn you can live even better being understood than being misunderstood. Do Something About It.
