Reader comment on item: [Pew Poll on] How Muslims Think
in response to reader comment: Christians and the media are the problem

Submitted by LDC (United States), Jun 27, 2006 at 14:38

Nawab, your comments reflect several gross misunderstandings of those of us in the West, including:

  • "all of them think are God's chosen people" - not so of Christians in general. (how many, I wonder, have you actually known, personally?)
  • "try to prove Islam wrong by criticzing The koran, Allah and the prophet" - sir, until 9/11, most Christians had virtually no understanding of the Koran, only a superficial (and generally positive) impression of Mohammad, and we understood "Allah" as another word for "God"

Even if your interpretation of what Christians think was accurate, and it is not generally so, we in the West are permitted, by both our governments and our religions (or absence thereof), to think as we please about such matters. We call that free-thinking ability --"freedom." We, likewise, recognize that some Muslims are fully free to say that the West, and Westerners, are hell-bound. What we do not recognize is our responsibility to become victims of the violence associated with religious hatred, from Muslims or anyone else, for that matter. Nor, unlike you, sir, do we lump all Muslims under one category as all like-minded.
