Repression? Racism? I don't think so...

Reader comment on item: Anti-Muslim Racism?

Submitted by Reut Cohen (United States), Nov 23, 2005 at 01:31

As a student at a University where it has become incredibly taboo to be pro-Israel, I can certainly identify with this article. I am a staff writer for the school paper...and if I ever say anything that is pro-Israel, the Muslim Student Union (MSU) accuses me of being an "outrage." Its rather funny.

Often, I don't even mention MSU, they just simply assume everything is about them. It has become disconcerting that this club is backed by our chancellor, faculty, and every other student on campus....On the other hand, if a Jewish student speaks out because MSU brings their atrocious, absurd speakers, he or she is instantly shunned. Nevermind that they bring speakers who praise bus-bombers and suicide-bombers...let us not repress the poor Palestinian students because we don't want to be "racist."

By the way, only a handful of the Muslim students who want to "free Palestine" are Palestinian.

Every Jewish speaker we have had at UCI has been received horribly by the Muslim students...unless said speaker is a crazy pseudo-rabbi that believes in "freeing Palestine."

Unfortunately, my college campus has become a very uncomfortable place for many Jewish students who are involved.
