A contemptable ideology can flourish in any old head

Reader comment on item: Anti-Muslim Racism?

Submitted by John Penn (United States), Nov 22, 2005 at 16:09

If the fact that I reject certain socio-religious values means that I am a racist then sign me on. That said, according to the more orthodox definition of racist I am not even close to being a racist. Although I must admit I have never met a Nigerian who was into the Chieftains (the music group). And I have lived with ten Nigerians over the last five years. Nor have I ever met one who was doing his dissertation on James Joyce's Finnegan's wake. God forbid any race should do such a thing. I guess the bug'a'bear comes with thinking a certain race is innately superior to another. Which I do not.

But as I said at the start I wholeheartedly believe that some socio-religious values are superior and better than others. And the sooner many folks in the world can come over to the right side of this (I mean this objectively) the better the world will be. And this has nothing to do with geno' or pheno'. And in fact if tomorrow all Arabs were to suddenly adopt more secularist values and all non Arab westerners were to adopt socio-religious values of the average arab, my dispositions on race will have changed not one iota.
