Reader comment on item: Anti-Muslim Racism?

Submitted by Donald W. Bales (United States), Nov 22, 2005 at 17:39

When a person is on the wrong side of an issue or has no facts or reasoning to support his or her position, that person resorts to name-calling. A few of the favorite words are: sexist, chauvinist, racist, bigot, mean-spirited. But bashing of a minority-the straight white Anglo-Saxon male Protestants-is okay. It's okay to put them aside and give preference to other groups as college admission, government contracts or government or other jobs.

It is interesting to hear what some say when a black is accused of being racist: e. g. hating all white people and advocating it. It seems that there is a secret or, at least, a silent agreement that a black person-no matter what is said or done-cannot by definition, or more properly, by social fiat-just cannot be racist. When I asked about the treatment of whites in Zimbabwe and inquired if that was racism, I got no answer. The person just said something like, "Well, the white oppressed the black for so long, it was okay to take their land and to try to run them out of the country." (Incidentally, Zimbabwe used to export food-now they have to import it and are still starving.)
