Pea and thimble

Reader comment on item: Anti-Muslim Racism?

Submitted by Peter Lockley (Australia), Nov 22, 2005 at 15:58

These new definitions of racism are an intellectual pea and thimble trick. Their proponents silently extend the definition of racism to political or social positions which have nothing to do with it so that those positions, with which they disagree, will attract condemnation. Never mind that the reasons we quite properly condemn real racism don't apply to the new positions thus included under the term. Like the pea and thimble man, these intellectual hucksters hope nobody notices the switcheroo.
