Reader comment on item: How Israel Can Win

Farid,

thank you for your intelligent words regarding the separation of Islam from the State. I wholly agree with your comments. Here in the UK, I am constantly dismayed by the growing calls by certain members of the muslim community for the application of Sharia law OVER UK law. Also, the hypocracy of these people knows no bounds.

It's Ramadan now, and as usual, community leaders have again disagreed over the timing of the first Fast. Please can someone tell me why is it ok to use the Observatory's calculations with regards to the appearance of the moon to set the timetables for prayers, but not when the beginning of Ramadan comes along? Do you have this problem in your country?

I cringe at having to explain to my non-muslim friends why we have 2 Eid's at the end of Ramadan every year. I think they have decided, like most of UK society that muslims are just plain stupid, ignorant, backwards, and that any meaningful dialogue with them is impossible.

Regards, Raheel
