Eleven Years Ago & Now: Strategy Accept, Time for Tactics

Reader comment on item: How Israel Can Win

Dear Daniel Pipes,

What you first said/wrote here almost 11 years ago seems to be even more true today.

But now I can see the possibility of you committing yourself to recommendations on Tactics.

The "easy" part is to simply begin by moving the USA Embassy to Jerusalem immediately. But that's not the best moment to do so - in the first week, or month, that the new administration takes office. I am thinking about the "good luck" President Roosevelt experienced when the Surprise Attack occurred on Pearl Harbor. Also, I recall how pleased Erdogan was when the coup failed, and he could use it to declare effectively a State of Emergency (similar to Marshal Law) and use it to destroy most of his enemies. So Trump needs to pick a better moment to do this - Obama waited till the end of his administration to screw Israel (and Netanyahu) by allowing the UN to pass it's last anti-Israel resolution in a 14-0 vote. But sometimes it is good to suffer a mild defeat in order to regroup for a counteroffensive. I expect Israel to come up with a counter offensive.

(1) One tactic is for Netanyahu to urge Muslim Arab countries to recognize Israel before the Palestinian Question is resolved; the threat of Iran Shia Iran should be emphasized in this matter.

(2) Another tactic is for the USA and Israel to create a No-Fly Zone to Israel's North, in Syria especially, with the USA Armada in support and alliance with Israel. Whether or not NATO would joint will show also whether NATO is "obsolete" as Trump stated. And Russia might be sympathetic to Israel which has about 1,000,000 or so Russian Jews who immigrated to Israel, and for whom Putin seems sympathetic. Such a No-Fly Zone can be promoted as a place where Syrian Refugees can take shelter - under American and Israeli protection. And the Arab and Muslim countries should be asked to pay for that. Who knows, maybe some creative real estate tycoon might announce Trump Settlements in Syria for Syrian Refugees. The man who built the ice skating ring in Central Park in Manhattan (Trump) might be the ideal person to Settle Muslim Arab Refugees in the place they came from - the Middle East.
