Reader comment on item: How Israel Can Win

Submitted by Melvin A. Fechter (United States), Apr 4, 2006 at 15:26

What you say here is true, Daniel Pipes, but only part of the story. The other part of the story is that if your suggestions were pursued, and pursued successfully, it would in time create two states living side by side, hopefully in peace, but the agony of Militant Islam would survive and fester, and one day revive. Certainly, the issues of Jerusalem, Hebron, and the so-called refugees would remain.

I will suggest that perhaps Israel is in a complete analysis pursuing the right course. Let the Palestinians grind themselves into the dust with their irreconcilable hatreds. Let them for the next 58 years, and 58 more, continue to accomplish precisely nothing as they have for the last 58, to end all hope for a decent way of life, to possess more and more of less and less, for destructive hatreds truly to be found futile, for Israel to develop irrevocably whatever it must have of the West Bank, for the "refugees" to die off to the point where Palestine is but a distant dream and memory for whoever remains, and perhaps even for the Palestinians to admit what I suspect is a simple truth: that Jerusalem is no more a holy city to the Arabs than Ur is to an Orthodox Jew. Scream, dear Muslims! Where is reverence for Jerusalem in the Koran?
