Reader comment on item: How Israel Can Win

Submitted by john w mcginley (United States), Apr 6, 2006 at 13:29

I am quick to critique you when I think you are wrong. I want to be equally quick to endorse and celebrate you when I think you are right. This most recent article of yours was stellar.

Perhaps I have misread you in the past (or, possibly I am misreading you now), but I find a discordance between this fine article and some of your remarks in the past concerning the policies of the Sharon government and its Olmert successor. I always took the Sharon stategy to be an intelligent instantiation of what you have outlined in this article. Since I was a philosophy prof will put it in the form of a quasi syllogism:

Major: This article is a clear, precise, and intelligent statement of what Israeli poicy should aim for.
Minor: the Sharon govemenment -- and one has every reason to believe such of its Olmert successor as well -- was dong such already in a subtle and intelligent way.

Conclusion: So why the heck have you been so hard on Sharon and its Kadima continuation?
In life, in politics, and in marriages most especially, the bitterest arguments are over the minor premise. All in all, professor, you are still performing a very good service beneficial for both the United States and Israel. Write on!
