Reader comment on item: How Israel Can Win
in response to reader comment: Israel can win, if it has the spine to.

Killing people at random will be totally INHUMAN. Only the guilty should be punished. Killing innocents will only fuel more resentment and create more terrorists. How can you fire random aritllery shells at schools and hospitals ? Assumed that every palestinian hates the Jew and he/she is conditioned to hate and harm the Jew from childhood and when he grows up he might become a suicide bomber. But is it morally correct to kill him when he is only a few months old baby ? I don't think so. Maybe some crazy despot like Saddam or Hitler may do it without any qualms.

Again I understand that modern Israel has borne such attacks almost from the day she was born. She has suffered more that any other nation in the world and all her efforts at peace has only been treated as a sign of weakness and scoffed at. Still there has to be a better solution like better intelligence gathering, better security measures and checks to prevent such attacks. You can't go on killing people at random, it may help in the short run but long term gains are questionable. And don't forget that you are killing people. That will make you as guilty as the terrorists that you are fighting. Not that Israel does not have the spine for this kind of thing or that she has not tried a similar approach, only She is simply different from the arabs by nature.

It will be much better if you could target the financers of terrorism, their training camps , recruitment centres and even their media both in the middle east and outside. This will require international co-operation and might. For instance Israel may not be able to target terrorist training camps in Pakistan on her own without help from others. Also the birth rate of palestinians is more that that of the jews so statistically taking a life for a life will not ensure that palestinians will be exterminated. The phallus often outdoes the gun in the arab world. Today Israel's sphere of war has widened. It is just not the Palestinians. Especially in today's times, the political equations are changing with Iran coming openly in support of palestinians, announcing funding for Hamas government and making public her hate for Israel.

Israel will have to do more that just kill some palestinians at random. She will have to build her own credible nuclear deterent and defence capabilities with capacity for a retaliatory nuclear strike. This may not be enough to prevent the crazy ayatollas in iran from trying to nuke her, but in the event of something like this happening , She can at least get even. And those mullas will certainly think twice before they do anything really stupid. Israel will also need a leader who will have the guts to strike Iran first in the event of a certain strike on Her by Iran. On the political front She should lobby hard with US and the rest of the world to stop Iran from developing nuclear capabilities. Now the danger to Israel is not just some suicide bomber blowing up himself in public. It is much much more. It is a nuclear holocaust that Israel is facing but the whole world seems strangely oblivious to this.

Jason, do you have a practical solution to this ?
