Reader comment on item: How Israel Can Win
in response to reader comment: Iran is Aryan

Submitted by Ann (India), Jul 4, 2007 at 07:40

The word Aryan / Arya has been used for at least 5000 years by a set of people; probably originating in the Caucasus mountains, and then settling down in Aryavarta (Land of the Aryas or present day North INdia), as well as Airyanam ( Land of the Aryas or present day Iran). The word Aryan in old Sanskrit and Old Avestan ( both these languages are again at least 5000 yrs old) means "noble", "spiritual" , " good". It was a word used by the tribes to describe themselves, much as someone would today claim he's American or Canadian or Kenyan.

The word was used in entirely the wrong sense and for a totally evil purpose by an idiot called Hitler.

So, should people who have been describing their lineage and heritage through the word Aryan for 5000 years, suddenly stop using the word and invent a new one to describe themselves and their history?
