Compare the Leaders

Reader comment on item: [Fixing] Islam's Image Problem
in response to reader comment: World Domination and Killing People?

Submitted by Steve Collins (United States), Jun 4, 2006 at 21:42

It is true that most religious establishments have used God to justify many cruelties. Man dilutes, distorts and bastardizes everything that he touches. The way to judge a religion is to compare their leaders.

Contrary to what this writer says, no where in the New Testament is there any mention of killing another. As a matter of fact we are commanded to love and pray for our enemies (following this command is quite a challenge) and to love our neighbors as we love ourselves.

In the Koran there are numerous examples of the condoning of violent and intolerant action. For instance Muslims are told "do not take unbelievers as your friends". Unbelievers refers to Christians and Jews in particular. Here are some interesting Surahs:

2:217 Fighting is prescribed for you, and you dislike it. But it is possible that you dislike a thing which is good for you, and that you love a thing, which is bad for you. But Allah knows, and you know not.

4: 74 Let those (Muslims) fight in the cause of Allah who sell the life of this world for the hereafter. To him who fights in the cause of Allah; whether he is slain or get victory; soon shall We give him a reward of great. (This must be where you get the seven virgins).

9:29 Fight those who believe not in Allah nor the Last Day, nor hold that forbidden which hath been forbidden by Allah and His Messenger, nor acknowledge the religion of Truth, of the People of the Book, until they pay the Jizya with willing submission, and feel themselves subdued.

Finally, can you name one Christianized country in which conversion to Islam is a crime punishable by death?
