Reader comment on item: [Fixing] Islam's Image Problem
in response to reader comment: 500 years in to the past

When you speak about Islam in general and Muslim people around the world, i hope you are not of the belief that all Muslims are Arabs. Arabs only make up 20% of the Muslim world.

Islam exists all over the world and has been the religion of choice for many people from many different cultures and backgrounds.

If you want to go back 500 years and examine some historical facts, it was the English who did not fully emerse themselves in water as they believed that the devil would poses them. This is why the black plague killed over 1/3 of the population of Europe. In the middle east, only 1/10 were killed as a result of the black plague, as Muslims are obliged to pray five times a day, they are also obliged to wash up before prayer and this helped prevent the spread of the plague.

Some other historical facts that may be of interest are:

-Muslims invented soap.

-First Hospital, University, irrigation system, sewage treatment, and street lights were in Mulsim countries.

The European renaissance only took place due to the discoveries and wealth of knowledge from the Muslim world. When Mulsims were actually following Islamic teachings they flourished and created the best of civilizations.

Today, the world is attacking islam as it is the only religion that stands in the way of globalization. Every religion and culture has accepted western culture willingly or unwillingly. Christianity has been largely defeated as many of the followers of Christianty have no clue as to what they believe in and do not understand how religion plays a role in their lives.

Islam is more than just a religion, it is a way of life. As the US feels that there way of life is the best way of life, good for them, but that does not mean it has to be the only way of life. Western culture has many flaws and problems that the world does not want or need.

As Muslims face many issues today, it is the fault of the Muslims for thier misery and stagnation.

If Muslims were truely Muslims, many of the issues they face today would dissapear. Lack of unity creates divisions within the Muslim world and allows others to exploit Islam.

A message to Muslims, either follow your faith properly and tap in to your rich history, or you will continue to decline.

Many Muslims have become occupied with survival and have let go of fundamental beliefs as the attack on Islam has been somewhat successful, but on the other hand many Muslims are properly following their faith and are holding on to their core beliefs. Education is a big factor in solving alot of todays problems.

In some cases people are highly educated but are fed with biased and wrong information. In other cases no education exists which leads to ignorance and stagnation.
