Reader comment on item: [Fixing] Islam's Image Problem

Submitted by Haifa (United Kingdom), Nov 7, 2003 at 13:36

Some of you have been saying that 'moderate' Muslims are those who do not practice their religion. I beg to differ. I am very much a practicing Muslim and I do not at all agree with the likes of Osama Bin Laden whom had arrogantly forced HIS warped version of Islam on innocent victims.
the Qura'an says that if one kills on person it is as if one has killed all of humanity, how does that fit in with what was done in Sept.11th?! The history of true muslims like Omar Bin al Khattab proves and shows the true beauty of Islam, for example when the Muslims entered Jerusalem, one of the priests offered Omar to pray in the church but he refused so that when he dies other Muslims would not consider building a mosque in its place for he respected Christianity, he also ordered the Muslims not to hurt any person, animal, or plant even and to respect others' religions in conformity with the Quara'an's 'la ikraha bil deyn' , that is that religion is not to be forced upon anyone.

Therefore if you want to attack anybody do not attack a tolerant and peaceful religion that was sent to all people equally regardless of race, religion, background, etc, point your fingers at those who do not respect it enough to understand it properly and who assume a self righteous stance saying that they know all there is to know, because obviously they do not. The God that created us all did not intend for us to use his name and his guidance through religion to hurt each other yet you find it in every 'PRACTICE' of religion in Christianity 'McVeigh, Hitler' in Judaism and the treatment the people of Palestine recieve on a daily basis from people who claim to be acting out the word of God, and yes, Islam with the likes of Bin Laden killing innocents. Its the people not the religion.
