Obviously, "the person who made those statements is not me" is Finkielkraut's way of saying he feels betrayed and misrepresented. "Le Monde" and subsequent statements in the media painted a portrait of him in which his words, his opinions, his values and everything he stands for was (deliberately?) misconstrued.
