Getting the wrong idea and sending the wrong message...

The American public has not lost a concern about terrorism or Islamists. However, Americans have put the matter in to perspective. Why have national policies restricting civil liberties when people in Idaho are not likely to be attacked? Since the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan has wiped out large segments of experienced militants, the new terrorists are a bit wet behind the ears and are making mistake after mistake. The public has harden about terrorism and has become more realistic in appraising the threat. However, Pipes places too much reliance on government solutions when Americans do not have such faith in government. What is needed is more civil defense measures and efforts to expose extremists. That is not a task so much as for government but for private citizens like Mr. Pipes.
