The Unpaid Butcher's Bill

Reader comment on item: My Gloom: Back to September 10

Submitted by Lee D. Cary (United States), Dec 20, 2005 at 17:16

Sleep, as Daniel Pipes states, does beckon. To his list of developments we might add:
- Homeland security now wants us to go back to carrying knives and screwdrivers on planes
- The legacy media is focused on finding some basis for another impeachment drama
- The Germans just paroled the terrorists who murdered the US Navy diver in 1985

A friend of mine wrote a response to 9/11 late that September addressed to his adult children and copied to his friends. He wondered if this generation had the stomach to fight the type of war it would take to win. I think not, and I know why.

Not enough of us died on 9/11. There is yet a butcher's bill to be paid before we awaken from sleep. And that is all that can awaken us.
