The probable reason why columnists don't talk about this can be one of two things:

a. either they know something you don't know, which is that Islamists talk big but are pretty far behind in their aspirations, (actually, much like the Jews of 2000 years ago--dreaming of taking over the whole Middle East and making inflated claims about their superiority and their God-given right to rule over others, but it was not even a fair fight and the Roman legions destroyed their aspirations for all time.

b. the don't know anything about the subject, and therefore by ignoring the threat they are hiding their own ignorance.

I think a. has a better chance of being right.
