The "domestic spying" stories are further proof.

Reader comment on item: My Gloom: Back to September 10

C-SPAN spent almost three hours Tuesday morning focusing on the so-called "domestic spying" being done by the Bush administration. The politically correct callers ignored the fact that these were international calls being made by or to people with al-Qaeda connections. They disagreed with Abraham Lincoln, who said the Constitution is not a suicide pact. Their view is that we should be willing to die for our freedom. Not that we should be willing to fight for our freedom, but that we should be willing to be sitting ducks and just let the Islamists do their thing. That way, at least we'll remain pure.
As I understand it, the president's directives were reviewed regularly and key members of Congress were kept informed. These wiretaps also supposedly led to the breakup of the Lackawanna and Portland terrorist cells.

Many members of Congress and the media may have traveled back in time to September 10, but President Bush and his team most certainly have not. The entire free world can thank God that the US has a president willing to defend America without holding his finger to the wind before deciding what to do.
