Denial is easier than taking responsibility

Reader comment on item: My Gloom: Back to September 10

Submitted by Kenneth S. Besig (Israel), Dec 20, 2005 at 15:08

For the Western politicians it is much easier to deny that the problem of Islamic terrorism exists than to take political responsibility for the hard and often expensive decisions to cope with it. Worse, given the confrontational nature of Western democratic politics and the open nature of Western societies, it is politically difficult to put the necessary border and other security controls in place to isolate and incarcerate or expel dangerous Islamic terrorists.
