My Gloom

Dear Mr. Pipes,

The odd thing about reading your riveting article is that the fear that raced through my bloodstream was not because of the terrorists whose desire it is to annihilate us, but was instead due to my fellow Westerners whose blindness makes me feel less safe than I did in the hours following the morning of September 11th, 2001....

It was on that morning, while frantically trying to find my child who attended 2nd grade a couple of blocks away from the Towers, that a crystal clear mantra formed in my mind that has not diminished in over four years: please, Mr. Bush, get them...get them all....before they get us. Sound paranoid? There was a time, in my liberal past, that I would have thought so too. That was when life was hazily and happily vague. No longer. Anyone who doesn't know the long-range plans our enemies have to destroy everything we hold dear is the one who is now out of touch with reality.
