Israel is moving in the right directionReader comment on item: My Gloom: Back to September 10 Submitted by Amos Turner (United States), Dec 21, 2005 at 12:29 Dear Dr. Pipes,Your knowledge of intentions of the Islamists is second to none. I agree with all your comments, except I feel diferently about Israel. Israel is moving to the center, not to the left. Kadima is projected to win the elections and Prime Minister Sharon is recovering from a mild stroke. Sharon's vision is obvious; he will either negotiate peace with the Palestinians on his terms or he will take unilateral actions. I believe that Sharon will follow Pres. Bush statement of April, 2004. Israel will retain the major settlements and thus not redivide Jerusalem. Palestinian refugees will return to Palestine or to other Arab countries, not to Israel. I am concerned about the fact that only 33% of the Security Fence are complete. The window of opportunity will close at the end of 2008 and it could close in 2006, if democrats take control of the House and/or Senate in 2006 and of the White House in 2008. Democrats are acting shrewdly. Having nothing positive to offer, they attack viciously the Administration and filibuster important bills.
