Reader comment on item: My Gloom: Back to September 10

As one who does not read Arabic, I cannot pretend to know much about Islam. 5 years ago I began omnivorous reading aimed at learning something about the Qur'an and Islam. I began with a distinctly Andalucian view of its glories. This has been replaced with faint praise for efforts prior to 1258 to translate Greek and eastern material into Arabic (for later use by the West!). It has also led me to agree completely with your assessment of the aims of radical Islamists. The world belongs to Allah, and if he isn't going to take, then we have to do it for him. That's the positive 50%.

The negative 50% is your faith in the present Admnistration. I don't think they have the slightest awareness of what you are saying. I don't think the Patriot Act had anything to do with Islam. Any action taken in the Middle East seems to related Haliburton profits, and nothing else.

Anyone who knows statistics knows that the Florida 2004 vote was tampered with. Ohio's refusal to allow analysis of their vote, and bills in the Ohio legislature to make recounts difficult, the use of corrupt voting machines, and the discrepancy between official and exit polls, convince me that the election was stolen. Steven Jones's analysis of the collapse of the World Trade Center, particularly WTC-7, not hit by an airplane, but falling vertically in space and parabolically in time, convince me that only professional timed-explosive building demolition could produce the observed results. Cheney's ordering of half-a-dozen war games on 9/11, taking fighter planes away from New York, and Bush's patient waitiing in Florida after the first attack, suggest collusion. ( I suspect Bush had been instructed to wait until the White House was hit by the Pennsylvania plane before taking action -- but that's just a personal guess, indicative of how much I have learned to trust the man.)

The Patriot Act, and subsequent invasion of hard-won rights, are of a piece with what appears to be the sole concern of the adinistration: the transfer of public money to private pockets. Nothing conflicts with the view that their only interest was stealling the existing surplus, and running up future debt, to line the pockets of Bush's operators.

Remember Georing's advice for controlling the country: ' All you have to do is tell the people they are being attacked, and denounce the pacifists for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country.'
