Reader comment on item: Musharraf's Historic Speech

Submitted by Swahili Dinaz (India), Sep 25, 2005 at 01:46

I agree, a very thought-provoking article, as the debate here shows. Our sympathies with the brave women in Islam, like Mukhtaran Mai, Asma Jehangir in Pakistan, the activists of RAWA in Agfhanistan (see www.rawa.com), who alone can bring a positive change in the Muslim world. I wonder if G-d is overly preoccupied right now with the length of men's beards and women's hemlines, leaving us to cope with the mess here on our own. Indian Muslims who chose to live in India are addressed by the Islamists abroad as 'Hindis', because many of them live by the ancient cultural tenets of India, positively influenced by the same gentle tolerace and progressivism. A major debate is on-going in India among its Muslims, in major denial of the jehadi ideology, following the sharp reaction to burning of innocent Hindus in a train in Gujarat. ...Now, over the dress code for women under WTA! Inshallah, may a thousand talents bloom among Muslim women in public life from now on, uncensored by the jihadi mullahs of India and Pakistan.
