... Even a cursory glance at the Pakistani dictator's record will show it to be one of tall promises with little to show by way of results. George bush and his foreign policy team long ago saw through it but continue to indulge him for fear of an unknown (to them) alternative. The only institution that has grown from strength to strength in Pakistan since their independence from the British is the army. Every time there is a crisis imaginary or created, the army benefits-september 11th was seminal in that regard and the commando has seized it with open arms and made the transition from pariah to poster boy. ...
