Reader comment on item: Musharraf's Historic Speech

Submitted by Dan (United States), Sep 23, 2005 at 12:32

I believe Pres. Musharrafs comments come under the heading of "its too good to be true". When something appears too good to be true, then thats probably the correct conclusion. Pres. Musharraf may tell us what he thinks we wish to hear and that which keeps the spigots of western support open but taking his public word at face value would be considered foolish. First, look from whence he comes, Pakistan. Second, has he delivered the same speech in his native tongue to his country? Doubtful. As has been pointed out by others here and in other columns, these boys have cried wolf once too often; their word simply has no value.

Regarding Mr. Akhtars comments, he should realize that if he reads the "real" koran, its filled w venom, hatred, aggression, ethnic denunciations, and.........I could go on. Read "Why I am not a muslim" by Ibn Warraq and you'll really get the idea. Suffice it to say, there is no other ideology on the planet which follows as MAINSTREAM thought the destruction of any other nation except islam. And there are million of followers who have been brainwashed to think in this way. What Mr. Akhtar thinks muslim teaching says or does not say is irrelevant since those charged w perpetuating the hatred, the clerics, pass it from one generation to the next. While there may not be a top to bottom hierarchy as there is in the church, islam is in dire need of reformation top to bottom, if we are all to avoid the next civilizational clash.
