Superficial, at best

Reader comment on item: Musharraf's Historic Speech

Submitted by Rob James (United States), Sep 21, 2005 at 08:37

I agree with many of the replies thus far about the superficial nature of Musharraf's speech. Pakistan is still an Islamic regime with a record of violating human rights. To this very day, it maintains an arbitrary "blasphemy" law that inprisons hundreds of christians every year. All someone has to do is accuse a christian of cursing Muhammed and a dozen or so "witnesses" will pop out of nowhere.

The Wahhabis payed for a primetime commercial portraying Saudi Arabia as a key ally in the war against terror. We shouldn't take Musharraf's speech any more seriously than this.
