Reader comment on item: Musharraf's Historic Speech

Submitted by Pat (United States), Sep 20, 2005 at 16:17

How can Dr. Pipes say the leader of Jordan is articulating moderation? The article he referenced was published almost three years ago. What has Abdullah done (not said) since then? Just this week the Pew Research Center and the World Tribune published a poll which indicated that Jordan was the most anti-semitic country in the entire world. Is this poll invalid in some way? It appears that Abdullah's views mean nothing to Jordanians.

Arab and Muslim leaders talk a good game to Western audiences, but what do they say to their own people? The sight of people in the Middle East openly celebrating the murder of civilians says more than any article in any Western newspaper.

Daniel Pipes replies:

I referenced that three-year-old article because the lecture he gave this month at Catholic University is not online. And Abdullah says the same in Arabic as he does in English.
