Action versus Talk

Reader comment on item: Musharraf's Historic Speech

Submitted by Hari Iyer (United States), Sep 20, 2005 at 20:06

One has to judge a muslim by his/her action, not words. Words are meaningless in the context of a muslim mind-set.

However, it is good Musharaff said all the right things; whether he is going to modernize the madrassas in Pakistan is up in the air.

Recently, he said pakistani women getting raped do so because of monetary reasons, not realizing the significance of what he said and its effect. He did not allow a pakistani women raped to go abroad because he felt that would cause harm to Pakistani 'image'.

He has allowed fundamentalist groups at the expense of traditional pakistani political parties headed by Ms Bhutto, Mr. Sharif and other leaders who are exiled from their own native country. He has pandered to the islamic radical right. I guess he is just plain afraid to deal with them.

Nevertheless, it is a good beginning for Israel.
