"What do I believe really happened? I do believe that Salah al-Deen and his thugs were hunting for Nubian slaves and in the process they looted and sacked this great place and what a cultural loss to all of humanity and here is a sanitized version of information about this great and abandoned monastery"

And your personal "beliefs" are relevant . . . how?

Why would a Christian monastery have anything significant of value to loot? That by its very nature would be what a monastery is. Other than if it really was a meeting place for Christians. After all it was their goal to obliterate Muslims.

Then why would/should Saladin give a toss?
