Why should we be surprised as Muslims destroyed their own history

Reader comment on item: Islam vs. History

Dr. Pipes,

This is indeed shocking but again Muslims tell us that Uthman destroyed (we are told he did burn) copies of the Qur'an that were different from his own mushaf (read this as codex) so it does not surprise me that Muslims now and in the past destroyed not just the history of the infidels but their own history

Inspite of all of this destruction we still can see traces that survived this horrible destruction as in let us say the variant readings of the Qur'an that we still have to this day and case in point if you is Q7:113 where it says blah...blah قالوا ان لنا the second word has been read as انّ or inna or truly

Now if we read more of the verse we come across another in or truly again which makes such sentence a strange grammatical construct and this is why the word was also read as أءن or do (we)

But this was too embarrassing to Muslims because we are told that there are no differences between the rasm (or the basic layer of the Qur'an which are supposed to be the words of Allah) in the Cairo Qur'an and the Tunisian Qur'an as the second version of the word in has two extra consonants (two hamzas) but this is a clear case of differences in the rasm itself and what is most amazing it also means that we really do not what the Qur'an says or what Allah might have in his al-lawh al-mahfouz or the protected tablet and it also means that the Qur'an is an edited books and the editing was done by human beings

The only way that we could explain it is that the destruction of the literary sources was not complete as we are meant to believe

The moral of the story here is that historians of early islam should keep looking into the Islamic sources and that the United Nation should make it a crime to destroy any human heritage be it books or buildings of any culture or creed

As for the wahhabis destroying the Islamic history in Mecca: I happen to believe that there was no history to be destroyed in Mecca in the first place
