It is a well known fact that new religions do absorb some of the formers traditions ie christmas and easter have pagan roots. This is done so that "ignorant rustics would more cheerfully renounce the superstitions of paganism" E Gibbon.

This hardly implies continuity.the crucial thing is Judaism and its offshoot Christianity, with introduction of primitive tribal laws and custom made a mockery of pharoanic order and its priestly cast and mocked the Ziggurats as tower of Babel. They undermined and finally overthrew these institutions which they hated.

Riverside civilisations surrounded by barren lands need to clear silting, build more canals, prevent salination of lands and build flood defences or else they starve. This can only be done by a highly centralised authoterian and local administration.when the last Ptolemy left Egypt and the last babylonian king succommed to Persians the rot set in.Egypt did not see a native ruler until the nineteenth century.
