These Islamists basically suffer from inferiority complex. In their eyes, destroying these historical monuments is something akin to proving the superiority of Islam over other religions. Above all , it is their hatred towards Pre-Islamic cultural heritage, that is the root cause of such barbaric actions. In my opinion ,they suffer from some sort of paranoia that by destroying Pre-Islamic heritage sites they can deny the past & can prove the superiority of Islam over other religions.
