Reader comment on item: Ban the Burqa - and the Niqab Too

Submitted by Canadian Muslim (Canada), Mar 25, 2010 at 22:12

In the name of God, the beneficent the merciful.

I am a young student, I was born in Canada, I understand the rights I have been given, and I believe that this does violate the charter of rights.
Why is it that when the nuns in the churches, when they are covered up, they are known as practicing their religion, and when it comes to Muslim women, well there looked upon as oppressed.
Let me let all those who are going to read this comment of mines know, that there is always been someone targeted in the world, like the African Americans, they were lead to be slaves, and the Holocaust-the Jews were the targets and now the Muslims are being targeted. Why can't we all just accept our differences and live peacefully together?
There are people in every community that do certain actions that lead the community to shame, but its not just Muslims, everyone has those kind of people in their community.
The Muslim veil is something that is part of my religion and I believe that concluding such harsh laws is not Canada. Canada is the place of diversity and cultures that are woven together that make our tapestry,(quoted by Shane Koyczan).
If the Sikhs are allowed to wear there turbans and carry their kirpaans, if the Jews are permitted to wear wigs, if the many other religions present are permitted to wear there religious gear, I can't see why Muslims are led to hardship to follow their religion.
There are many of those who tell us Muslims to go back where we came from, but where do individuals like me go,who were born here, who like the other white Canadians were born in this country. We are as much as Canadians as anyone else in this country.
