Male Arab Islamic "warriors" donning womens' clothing to avoid getting shot in a firefight they initiate seems to be a well established tactic. The various accounts I've read of the events at Dar Yassin in April 1948 indicate they pulled the same craven stunt-and then opened fire on Israelis who had offered them military courtesy as non combatants.
