Advantages of Burka

Reader comment on item: Ban the Burqa - and the Niqab Too

Submitted by gamalieli@hotmail.com (United States), Aug 2, 2007 at 11:23

When people see burka clad women walking around it makes them aware that we have a problem and that's a good thing. Passing laws not allowing extremists to dress as extremists creates a false sense of security.

Daniel Pipe's argument about Burkas being a threat to security is correct also. One security advantage of Burkas is that it allows private investigators and FBI to disguise themselves and secretly monitor what is going on in extremist mosques. One problem with allowing Burkas is that it makes it possible for Muslims to intimidate people into wearing them. There are areas in France where they intimidate women into wearing Islamic dress. On the other hand if you ban burkas on the grounds that they hide the face, wouldn't you have to ban ski masks as well.

There are two sides to this argument.
