The comment that if a woman is allowed to show herself then surely she should also be allowed to cover herself evades the main issue.. The issue here is about freedom of choice. Men in Western cultures aren't normally empowered to force women to show themselves, wheras in Muslim countries men are empowered to FORCE women cover themselves.

The issue is one of tolerance and freedom of choice. The Muslim tradition seems to be "It's our way or you die." To all the Muslims who insist how much they love their women, I would say that their statements remind me of the comments of a segregationist I interviewed about fifty years ago. He stated, "Ah loves darkies -- in their place."
