Dutch fear for loss of votes

Reader comment on item: Ban the Burqa - and the Niqab Too

Submitted by William Hohage (Netherlands), Aug 2, 2007 at 11:00

One member of the Dutch parliament presented a proposal to forbid the burqa and the naqib. We have in the Netherlands hundred of thousands muslims. The other parties in paliament were afraid that endorsement of this proposal might cost them votes...so the proposal was rejected. Opinion polls have indicated that more than 70% of the Dutch population raise an opposition against burqas and niqabs.
