it is true that Christian missionaries have faced violence from Hindu extremists. The biggest contention is that Christianity 'believes' in 'spreading' of faith. when a person A goes to person B and says take my religion and attain 'salvation' he is essentially saying your religion is inferior compared to mine. and there goes the facade of respecting all religions in dustbin. its not the same as Toyota trying to outsell Ford. There are Zoroastrians from Persia, Bahais, Jews, and offcourse Jains, SIkhs and Buddhists living in India. None believe in the 'conversion' game. Hindus have problems with Chrisitianity because of 'proselytizing' and with Islam because of 1000 reasons. Pope thinks we are 'heathens' or 'pagans' or whatever!! isnt it?

Hindus living in the West dont face violence in the name of religion. 10 pts to the West. (they sometimes face it in the name of race and they definitely face non-violent racism). However, I doubt the situation wuld be the same if they indulged in 'propogating' their faith instead of 'practising' their faith. I know there are Hare-Rama-Krishna-Iskcon crap. but they are not into 'conversion'. I was stopped at LA airport and 'imparted' teachings of Krishna by a white guy for 10 minutes I checked with him whether he had renounced Christianity. He said no. I was releieved and went for my cigarette break!!!

I did my schooling in a christian missionary school and learnt my Shakespeare from an Austrian Catholic. while she just 'taught' us, her 'Indian' Christian counterparts would regularly give harangue against Hinduism. we were not allowed to celebrate any Hindu festivals, but every year spent a week doing skits on birth of Jesus around Christmas. In general Hindus believe in Christ but not the books written yrs after him and defintiely not the Church the way it is behaving in India in the name of 'freedom of religion'.

Sonia Gandhi faces opposition from the 'Right-Wing' here not becoz she is Christian but because she is Italian and her only achievement in life is to get a last name of 'Gandhi'. Hinduism is polytheist. By its very nature it wont hv problems with any 'monotheist' religion. It has witnessed birth of 3 other religions in this land without any violence. This essence can be witnessed by the fact that Sonia Gandhi got most votes in the not-so-educated hinterland for whom city leverl issues of bread-butter come before naitonalism. If these illiterate Hindus can vote her, then u may get an idea of how the avg Hindu thinks. The educated dont support her on issues of 'nationalism'.

Thanks to Islam, the 'peace and prosperity' of West is gone. If it had continued undisturbed for another 500 yrs, the west wuld hv understood Hinduism wihtout rejecting it as pagan. then dialogue of civilizations on issues of 'nature' of God, and the importance of 'reason' in teh scheme of God could hv been discussed. and why monotheism might be a intellectual and spiritual tyranny for some ppl. west had taken the first step via multi-culturalism and multi-racial/lingual. nyways right now Islamic terrorism is on the front.

its a fact that Christian west has dim view of Hindus and Hinduism and Indian religions. its becoz display of power is an essential element in the formation of opinion for the west. so u respect Islam coz the Turks pocked spears in the ass of Austria and the Caliphate had conquered Spain. may be we shld hv chased Alexander when he realised he had no further chance in India. and may be Chauhan should have buried Muhammad Ghori in the 1st battle itself. and may be Dahar should have chased the Arabs after he defeated them in the initial attacks. and may be we should have ignored the American warships in Bay of Bengal and for once 'settled with' Pakistan in 1971. i am assuming you r the guy who has fondness for the 'crazy' Pakistani generals. good luck to you. keep finding fault with Hindus and Indians and fight 'war on terror' WITH terrorists! may the force of Allah be with u!!
