What the Qur`an states provided a solution for the day based upon the conditions that existed at that time. There is no universal applicability of it. A modern and critical analyses of the secondary sources -- hadith, sira, etc. -- have revealed plenty of holes in them to doubt the authenticity of many of the accounts in them.

There were many who became Muslims but hated the Prophet and his household. Some of them even killed his grandson and his family. Many accounts about him were invented. That much we know. You are free to hang on to whatever your heart desires. God is the Judge of us all. I am not here to convince anyone of anything.
