Reader comment on item: Christianity Dying in Its Birthplace
in response to reader comment: Response to Mr. Amitabh Tripathi

"...The judge said the Australians' work led to the conversion of some rural Indians who distanced themselves from non-Christians "and adopted the anti-customary practice of eating beef".

Now I am not defending any crime in the name of religion. and i dont want to pay any lip-service sympathies here.

if you noticed from your own posting. "..the anti-customary practice of eating beef" was adopted. beef slaughter is banned in India because Hindus treat cows as sacred. I would just like to tell you, that things were happening which were offensive to Hindus. thats no reason someone should be killed. they certainly could have protested in many other ways.

Hindus cannot understand why 'spreading' one's religion should be part of one's religious rights. The Christian missionaries go into mass-conversions in India and lure poor tribal ppl by money or health-care or education into Chrsitianity. This again in no way justifies murder. But if the Church thinks of itself as some Commercial firm which has to 'sell' its product and gain 'market share' of the population, then its despicable. I am fully aware that Hinduism has its own serious problems, but this proselytizing business is really offensive and ppl hate it here. However we wish ppl in EU/US start taking their faith and Church seriously but over here, please dont 'propogate'. theres a lot of difference between 'propogating' and 'practising'.
