Reader comment on item: Hold Damascus Responsible [for Hezbollah Violence in Southern Lebanon]

Submitted by Yuval Brandstetter MD (Israel), Aug 3, 2006 at 16:55

But not in the title, rather in the side-note. I copy and paste "After their experiences occupying Arab-majority lands in 1967 and 1982, Israelis have widely decided against a repetition. " emphasis on the Arab Majority. ergo, Israel has no problem holding on to an Arab minority, or to Arab non-existent piece ofr real-estate. Which means that if israel wants to keep its northern border secure, South Lebanon has to be off-limits to arabs.

Sounds horrendous, but what is the alternative? More of the same?

So let us try another tack. Israel will offer to move the Arabs of the West Bank and Jerusalem to the vacant South Lebanon in exchange for a peace treaty with this new population. Sounds crazy? Not at all. South Lebanon can be Fatah Land again, no worse than prior to 1978, with the added bonus of Israel free from internal suicide bombers which have claimed far more lives than all the Lebanon campaigns put together.

As for the Syrian option. Syria is not in control of Hizzbullah. Iran, whose Islamo-Nazi president is openly advocating the final solution to the Jewish Problem a-la Hitler is in control of Hizzbullah. The only way to dissuade Hizzbulah from attacking Israel is the submission of Iran, a job too big for Israel, or the abrogation of real-estate from which to launch attacks. That brings us to denial of land within 20-40 miles to the Shiites.

Ehud olmert has one great ability which is to lay land waste. He has demonstrated that ability in Gush Katif. Now south lebanon is about to inherit the same fate. ...
