Reply to Peter HerzReader comment on item: Hold Damascus Responsible Submitted by Seamus MacNemi (United States), Jun 7, 2007 at 18:10 You've hit the nail square on the head lad and driven it home with a single blow. The political naivety of the American populace is indeed maddening. I've been watching it since I was in high school in the 50's and as far as I can tell little has really changed. For as long as I have lived America has been living in a coccoon of woven fantasy about itself and its place in the world. Even WW2 did little to dispel the illusion. While the rest of the world was burning, most Americans thought they could just watch like spectators in a sporting event. It took Pearl Harbor to wake them up to reality. Then the isolationists and the peace at any cost crowd were knocked into line with the reality of the war. Unfortunately, after the war, there were some few who had the foolish notion that we were done with the whole matter and decided to "See The U.S.A. in their Chevrolets". They totally forgot the menace of National Socialism and allowed it to flourish even in this country in the name of "Freedom Of Speech". I remember the Nazi attempt to March through Skokie Illinois. The government bent over backwards to allow the Nazi's their say when what they should have done was to squash that cancer in its birthing. It's the same thing with Islam today.
