Remember the Satanic Verses anyone?

Reader comment on item: The Paterson 'Protocols'

Submitted by Jason Madrid (United States), Nov 6, 2002 at 16:09

Where is the international outrage and the outcry over this? Look back more than a decade to Rushdie's Satanic Verses and the impact it had. The novel had barely been released when an outrage by Muslims in England brought international attention to the book. That attention spread faster than wildfire catching the attention of Ayatollah Khomeini resulting in a now-defunt death edict and hundreds of thousands of angry Muslims (moderates included) denouncing this 'insult' to Islam.

Enter the Protocols.

Why are others, especially Muslims, allowing this campaign of intimidation and hatred against Jews? If it were insulting Islam, there would be an outcry; publishers would be boycotted; apologies thrown about; protests take place, action would be taken.

Why then the double standard? How dare they deprive us to speak of Islam but they are allowed to incite hatred of the Jews?

The State Department is urging, albeit privately to the Egyptians, not to air this forgery.

Why is there so much silence and hesitation in condemning this slander? The ouctry is limited to good people stating their frustrations on a message board, why not more action? Where are the international condemnations and protests? If it were a documentary defaming Islam, surely there would be loud condemnations (peaceful and violent) and outrages in a hearbeat.

The Protocols is not limited to slandering Israeli Jews, American Jews, or European Jews. It insults and demonizes ALL JEWS everywhere. Why is no one loudly speaking out against this?
