racism vs nationalism

Reader comment on item: The Paterson 'Protocols'
in response to reader comment: Hitler Not a Socialist

HenryJ, another posting of mine http://www.danielpipes.org/comments/168170

has a link to a dutch SS recruitment poster that illustrates the contempt of the nazis for the political/economical yet nationalist elite. I translate the slogan in the posting. The nazis favoured the soldier, farmer, worker over the intellectual, the elite. That is a socialist idea. As for equality, as you say "even force them into equality" is the practice of socialist regimes. There is equality within the party in a one-party-system and inequality between that one party and the rest. The nazis shared this view. The relationship betweem racism and nationalism in the nazi-mindset is important. It is racism first. The supreme race and its people have the quality of having nationalist feelings. The lack of nationalist goals and qualities, as opposed to selfish business interests for example, is the defining characteristic of the lower races according to nazi ideology. The egalitarian perspective for the nazis embraces all but different people all belonging to what they believed to be supreme races. It is a construct where the nationalist say norwegian would be equal to the nationalist german.
